at the meeting of 26 March 20201, the members of the European Council committed to do everything necessary to protect EU citizens and overcome the crisis, while preserving our European values and way of life. Beyond the urgency of combating the COVID-19 pandemic and its immediate consequences, the members of the European Council requested the preparation of the necessary measures for European societies and economies to return to normal functioning and sustainable growth, integrating, among other things, the transition to a green economy and digital transformation and drawing all the lessons from this crisis.
This communication, presented by the President of the European Commission and the President of the European Council, is a response to the request of the members of the European Council to develop a coordinated exit strategy with the Member States that will prepare the ground for a comprehensive recovery plan and unprecedented investment.
